Firstly, attention must be drawn to the absurd song name, Gold Guns Girls. It takes you back to the days of childhood with Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry, doesn’t it? So, despite speaking ridiculously slow to correctly pronounce this name all is forgotten once the song commences. Metric are thoroughly used to composing successful albums, with 4 under their belt already. It came as little surprise when the fast paced guitar, bass and drums instantly took a hold, and yet still persisted to put a gleaming smile on my face. What makes this single is the new electro/Japanese pop element, it brings life and soul to what would otherwise be a rather bleak and non descript single. Although undoubtedly catchy, the line ‘is it ever going to be enough’ is repeated one to many times and begins to become slightly irritating. If you find yourself at a loose end this summer and want to relax an acoustic version of this song is also available, the bare and stripped back version conveys the real beauty in Emily Haines voice and aided with a piano and acoustic guitar shows just what a superb song this is.
