Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - The Death Of You And Me

Brotherly love has never come easily for the Gallagher brothers. On one hand you’ve got the little brother who goes above and beyond to be noticed, calls his brother a ‘shitbag’ for holding a press conference about the demise of Oasis, and does everything in his power to get his new band noticed. On the other hand however; a more subdued, relaxed and approachable Noel Gallagher casually slips back onto the radar with his new band, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. You’d think the talisman behind Oasis wouldn’t have any trouble releasing a debut solo record, and you’d be 100% right. Suitably titled ‘The Death of You And Me’ a familiar upbeat acoustic strum begins proceedings – think Importance of Being Idle – got it? Before a soft flute drone accompanies Noels trademark falsetto of lyrical rhyming.  ‘Why the sea is calling out to me, I seem to spend my whole life running from people who would be the death of you and me, cause I can feel the storm clouds sucking up my soul’. Despite the predictable wordplay that made Supersonic such a hit, we see a deeper more emotional side to Noel’s writing, one that he has perhaps honed throughout his lengthy Oasis career. And his little brothers reaction? We’ll have to wait for that. An uplifting number, despite the deeper and darker lyrics.
