Cha Cha - We Are

With little recognition and no hype, Cha - Cha are a band that have slipped firmly under the radar.  Despite this, it isn’t always in a bands best efforts to receive unnecessary hype – it often means you might end up on the same commercial and processed path as Scouting For Girls, Justin Beiber, or new sensation Diana Vickers.  The debut album ‘We Are’ sees Cha – Cha take that fairly unknown reputation by the horns, throw it around in a rather unsavoury manner and come out with a remarkable, uplifting pop record.

Opening song ‘Photographic Love’ takes you through the relatively amusing, and often true fantasy of a girl falling in love with a rock star. Beneath the lyrics an arousing mix of Indie pop can be found, along with an added bit of funk to grab the listeners attention.  After a somewhat weak start to the album, each track progresses, becoming better than the last and with this, the funk and catchy Indie pop rhythms become more prominent and seem to be the main ingredients that carry the album.  ‘Juicy Lucy’ is by far the strongest track the album has to offer, telling the story of a boy loosing his masculinity when dating a girl.  However interesting the lyrics may be, it is very hard to concentrate on them when driving distorted bass lines and thrashing drums demand your attention from the outset.  There is no question whatsoever that every song demands a reaction from a part of your body, weather it be a tap of the foot, un-cool bop of the head, or a clasp of the hands.   ‘We Are’ is a compelling summer album, and with almost every track worthy of a single release, this is one you should not miss out on.
