Mama’s Gun - Wishing/Finger On It

Over the past decade there have been countless indie, euro pop, and electro acts grabbing the prestigious number 1 spot, some of them not as worthy as others – Flo Rida – 'Right Round', for example.  So, as you can imagine it is very refreshing to hear something new and exciting.

The band in question are a London based 5 piece by the name Mamas Gun.  Following the success of their debut album ‘Routes to Riches’ which has gained them a large Japanese fan base, the Londoners release the double A side ‘Wishing/Finger On It’ ‘Wishing’ takes heavy influence from Stevie Wonder and is a slow, sexy soul groove.  Typical skanking guitars, and walking bass lines feature, as in any soul records.  More tasteful backing vocals are used, unlike the ones you hear from X factor every Christmas.

The second track is something straight out of the 90’s JK era.  Vocals, drums and guitars alike, make it sound like a rip off.  However, it doesn’t make me love it any less, we all need a bit of JK inspired music from time to time.
