New single ‘Who Killed Rob’ by Foxes! When first listened to, resembles that of the distant single ‘Half in Love with Elisabeth’ by Mystery Jets. With a simple keyboard melody that is the hook, followed by a rather angelic voice with a calming feel, this replicates the same melody vocally. The song as a whole isn’t a summer party anthem, more of a sit in the sun with a beer moment. This would also be true for the middle of the song. The energetic start tends to fade somewhat, so if in a club you would have purchased your beer (after standing in a lengthy queue) and still be back on the dance floor for an energetic end. The single picks up energy around the 2.30 mark, rather like a snowball effect which leads on to the climax. It becomes more modern electro around this point sounding like chart topping acts including ‘Ladyhawke’. Despite this, I can’t see Foxes! Hitting the mainstream market, being signed to an already established independent label ‘Rough Trade’ the band are already in a strong position. The single ‘Who Killed Rob’ comes from Foxes! new EP, available to purchase off their MySpace page as of now. It is a perfect demonstration of how to produce infectious Folk/Electro Pop. Whilst Foxes! may be under the genre classification of Electro – Pop, you could be mistaken that they are jumping on the Electro Band Wagon? Mistaken you would be, they’re fresh, exciting and different from any mainstream music out there. Plus walking along on a sunny summers day with an ice cream in hand and Foxes in ears you couldn’t be in a happier place! Be warned though, melodies tend to be Nintendo – esque, if you’re not one for computer games this may not excite your ears. Computer boffins on the other hand, one to add to your collection.
