Foreign Office - Voices/Leaving The House

The word Foreign Office conjures up, well, the image of rich, overweight and suited men in a conference room sipping coffee and coming to no real solutions about global issues. As many of those suited and bloated men will skip around major issues, a band from London, holding the same name, do no such thing. In fact, the four piece make music so catchy, it is frowned upon if you don’t pull out your best dance moves.
The double A-side Voices/Leaving The House is released on This Playground Records, and carries clear influence on both tracks from Depeche Mode and The Cure. With bass lines fatter then Beth Ditto coupled with house beats even the hardest chav can’t resist getting his grove on to, Leaving The House is an instant club anthem. With the certainty this will be played in a club, you might have to take a moment to sit down, and not because the Ting Tings is going to be the next record, or the fact you’ve spilt beer over yourself and most of the pissed of people around you, but to take in the sheer quality of this record.

Voices is less ‘in your face’ and a more well structured, and cleverly crafted record. One of which you would hear walking into a kooky record store, rather then a club. The vocals scream Cure, whilst the drums give the record fantastic creativity with a new groovy take on the traditional ‘disco’ beat. If you do nothing over your Easter holidays, at the very least go and buy this record, even if you end up dancing in your room alone – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
