“It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside,” are the lyrics that begin Ellie Goulding’s latest offering. Your Song - originally by Elton John – will be the first single on the re-released album ‘Lights’. The simplicity and venerability from this 20-something songstress is unlike we have heard before. Ellie’s previous album ‘Lights’ was a combination between dance and folk, which was heavily reliant on autotune, to achieve the desired affect on the album. At times the album sounded over complicated, but with Elton’s Your Song the autotune is banished and her mesmerising vocals are aloud to shine through. Although the chord progression differs from the original, I think this is for the better because the keys are made to sound more prominent throughout the record. The end result is a simplistic, beautiful and unspoiled version of Your Song, and one I’m sure Elton would be proud. Expect to hear this on more than a Christmas John Lewis Advert.
